About this museum:
Prominent merchant and landowner Lemuel Showell II (1794-1859) is credited with construction of the house around 1858-59.  Lemuel Showell was one of the wealthiest merchants and landowners in Worcester County and he participated in a lucrative coastal trade between Worcester County and ports along the East Coast.  The farm was part of a tremendous agricultural, commercial, and industrial estate including thousands of acres in northern and central Worcester County.
